I cannot speak to how others use the word photobiography, but will give you my definition instead. I define photobiography as personal, candid, creative photography, designed to tell your story.
I would rather allow the subjects (the models.....you) be themselves during the shoot. We can work out of my studio in Downtown Seattle, or we may choose to shoot at the location of your choice. You can wear exactly what you want to wear - fancy, casual, grungy, whatever. As a photographer, I do not want to be the one to dictate your mood, the toothiness of your smile, etc - I want YOU to dictate that. I do not pose people, per se - I allow you to be YOURSELF during the shoot, and the right image, or the perfect angle makes itself known. The final result is a photo that looks LIKE YOU, not replicas of the work of 20 other photographers.
I want my clients to see their photos and feel that I captured their personalities, and the moment correctly. In fact, I want to surprise them, even - in that I have captured a glance, a gesture that you did not expect.
But let me be clear - as the client, YOU are in control of the shoot. It is your special day....your wedding....your civil union....your portrait session....your maternity photos...whatever. So....if you want posed shots, so be it. If you want intimate, more candid photography, you got it.
